Trends Relating To Botox

By Ariel Mernal

People today know that botox injection procedures are fast and easy, and make the skin look more youthful. Wrinkles and fine lines in the face become quite a big concern for ageing people, so many of them are utilizing the latest advances in cosmetic treatments, and that means getting botox injections. There was a time when people may have thought that botox was a trend that would disappear, but people now realize that it is not going anywhere.

Celebrity gossip programs on TV talk about botox injections every day, speculating on which celebrities have had the procedure. A lot of people are wondering why this has become so increasingly mainstream in recent years.

It's actually pretty easy to understand why. Ageing skin is a big problem, and people know that botox is inexpensive and effective. Unlike plastic surgery, there are no scars after the procedure, it's low-cost, and it takes only a few minutes to have done. Celebrities have made botox a household name, and because of this, many more people are now choosing to undergo these treatments.

What about Botox for Men?

Many people think that botox is only something that women are interested in, but this is not true. The truth is to the contrary. Women are still more likely to get botox than men, but it is becoming more widely accepted for men to receive the treatments as well. There are those in the media who have coined the term 'bro-tox'. Some clinics now report that up to 50% of their patients undergoing botox are male!

The trends are always evolving

The fact is, botox usage is going up. By some reports, the overall increase in botox treatments between 2010 and 2011 rose 5%, up to 5.7 million patients from 5.4 million the year before. Other statistics say that it's 10% that it has been going up, year by year. This rising trend should come as no surprise. In the past, the general attitude toward botox treatments were negative, but as time goes on, it's no longer just the super wealthy that can afford them, and regular people are much more accepting of the procedure. As time goes by, more and more people see this as an acceptable treatment method.

There is more than this though. Botox's applications have advanced from just cosmetic use to management of a variety of clinical conditions that cause muscle spasticity. Spastic paraparesis and cerebral palsy for adults and children, and blepharospasm are included in the other treatments that botox can be helpful for. Results have been promising and outcomes have been excellent. Other applications include managing patients with migraine (multiple botox injections are given to the scalp) and excessive sweating.

We can all speculate with certainty that botox is only going to rise in acceptance in time. Advancements are constantly being made, and at this time the future prospects are looking quite grand.
