Men Are Getting It!

By Clea Spahn

While men still significantly trail women in the number of plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures performed nationwide, they are becoming increasing commonplace in more waiting rooms. Non-surgical techniques of improving one's appearance are becoming more widely accepted, and men have become more open about having them.

In most cases, men do not want these procedures to be obvious to people they know, so they do not want any recovery time that would mess with their busy schedules. Nowadays, men pay more attention to how their skin appears due to the higher awareness of skin cancer, and of course men also like to improve their appearance when they can. It's also easier to see that the more sun exposed are also the most aged and this is no surprise given the deleterious effect of UV light on the skin's elastic network.

Modern skin care can both protect the skin and improve a lot of the damage that has been done by the sun. It is pretty quick to apply, a little at night before bed, and an application following the morning shave.

For men, one of the more popular types of procedures is rhinoplasty. Many times a larger sized nose is bothersome to the man, and other times it's a crooked or oddly shaped feature that is the issue. A general anaesthetic is used in a typical day patient rhinoplasty procedure, and it's about a week until the patient is ready to work and for a couple weeks, there could be some bruising.

The scars from a procedure like blepharoplasty and neck or face lifts are negligible, so men are also attracted to these procedures. Usually, men prefer that these processes are not obvious at all. In many cases, a man would mind having some wrinkles less than having obvious signs of having undergone a cosmetic procedure.

Despite attention to diet and a vigorous exercise program some men simply can't shift certain deposits of fat. The abdomen is where most men have excess fat, or in the flank area. Shaping of these regions with liposuction can be done as a day patient and return to work the next day is usually possible which can suit the busy male lifestyle.

Those men who are particularly interested in having a muscular look to their bodies seem to be prone to look at hair removal as an option. The more powerful lasers are much more effective at significantly reducing hair numbers. For the selected areas of the body, several treatments are needed, and one should avoid tanning before undergoing this process.

The reasons men decide to have these procedures done is not always the same as why women do it. Men have to compete in their field of business, and appearance has something to do with this. Finding a cosmetic surgeon that is experienced in procedures for men is a good idea, as it seems that many men today want to appear as they did in their youth.
