Motivation for Cosmetic Procedures

By Alistair Nole

It's more accepted these days that certain signs of aging, such as wrinkles or a loss of elasticity in the skin, are best treated in consultation with a cosmetic surgeon. To get the results that you want, proper treatment will provide the correct course of action to target excessive skin or a loss of collagen in certain parts of the face. In the past ten years, treatment options have grown dramatically and their popularity continues to explode. What motivates people these days to undergo treatments?

Certainly, self esteem is at the heart of many people's decision to seek treatments. Some are looking to improve confidence, decrease self-consciousness. For example, one may see their nose as large or conspicuous. Whether true or not, if one believes this to be true, the perception can create the reality and cause discomfort and anxiety. For some who work very hard through diet, exercise, makeup, clothes, etc, to look their best, a problem or flaw that they can improve upon, or an area that they would like to make just a bit better can be quite important. This becomes even more important when it is linked to sexuality.

A person's sense of improvement in quality of life or work can actually be the end result of a change. Wearing the type of clothes or bathing suits you want to wear can be included in this. Or, going to the beach is enjoyable for you, and you want to feel good about your body. Maybe you have a very public job or deal with the public a lot. These all weigh in the decision.

Vanity, which can be closely connected with self esteem, is one of the top motivators. It's only natural to want to regain a lost positive attribute. For example, my lips always had volume but now... , my figure was always nice but now.... It can be like losing your self-identity when you have had good positive reinforcement over the years and then lose that attribute.

When the effects of aging that have been creeping along for a while begin to appear, it's very natural to want to slow down or reverse them. Furthermore, it's equally natural to want to improve or alter a feature that you have always disliked. This can develop with age -- when you were younger, you thought about it a lot and after much reflection, realize it absolutely is something you want to improve.

Certainly, health reasons are another motivating factor. Many unpleasant postpartum changes to the body that can make any mom depressed. And correcting post-weight loss body changes can be a real tangible benefit. Also, there could be a need to relieve physical factors or symptoms. For example, chronic recurrent headaches, neck strain, lower back pain, shoulder notching, numbing or tingling in the hands due to nerve stretch could all be relieved by a breast reduction -- these are all associated with excessively large, heavy, dense breasts (mammary hypertrophy). A breast reduction procedure completely remedies almost all of these problems.

Dramatic life changes can also be a big motivator. Sometimes people feel like their divorce shows on their face, or that their work or other substantial stresses of life have aged them. There are clear, safe and affordable options available for anyone looking to make those changes or small corrections, whatever the reasons.
